We are pleased to announce a recent change at ShopHandmade. It is now 100% FREE! No listing fees. No commissions on sales. No sponsors needed. Completely free. ShopHandmade will be community-supported entirely through voluntary donations. We have even removed those annoying advertisements in the margin, allowing shoppers to focus entirely on your handmade products. Furthermore, change is on the way. While ShopHandmade is operating on a tight budget (aren't we all), this doesn't mean that we won't be rolling out new and exciting changes in the months ahead. In fact, there is a lot to look forward to in terms of how we look, how we function, and how we help you sell the things that you have worked so hard to create. Will we start to charge for "additional services" or for a "Pro Account"? Of course not! Do we expect donations and other forms of support? Not until you truly believe there is value in the service we provide. And whether you make a $1 donation, a $100 donation, or none at all, you will all be treated equally and fairly, the way that it should be.

Tap the picture and see the full description along with the price. Tap the store name and see everything that the store has to offer.

October 6, 2008 - The Glide Index & Amazing Quick Search!

Amazing Quick Search - The new "Amazing Quick Search" has enhanced searching for products in a big way. It's a great way to window shop and its very fast. Type…Pause…Preview. You can refine and change your search terms and find things quickly. In just the blink of the eye you can see matching products, store names, and similar search terms that others have used. We think that the Amazing Quick Search is a better way to shop than categories. try it!

Will it remain fast? Some people have already asked us how we can search so quickly and if it will continue stay so fast as we grow. Yes! The team of ninja-neers that built the "Amazing Quick Search" were the same team that built the internet's first super-fast search system for 60-million pages of US patents. They "get it" and the complexities of fast text searching. Searching will only get more sensational as the system actually learns!

The Glide Index -
We have a new twist: The Glide Index. You have seen we have the usual grid of products when doing a search that most sites have. Look under the navigation bar after doing a search and you will also see your search results as a line of small product tiles.

Glide over the tiles and click to view in detail. (That's why we call it a glide index.) It's the same list of products as in your traditional grid, but since it stays up when viewing product details it is easy to step through the items. No more navigating up-and-down-and-up-and-down like walking flights of steps. No more paging forward and backwards either, because the Glide Index shifts along with your browsing. Your current item is always enlarged and the Glide Index is re-centered around it.

Our goal is to help people find and buy things, not to bury items so you have to pay listing fees to bring them back to the top. The Glide index is one example of our focus on exposing your products to buyers.

October 5, 2008 - We have News: We're two weeks old.

News Added to ShopHandmade - We've added a ShopHandmade blog so that you can read about happenings here at ShopHandmade. Right now it's just a single blog, but it will expand into a few topics after "we grow up."

We're Two Weeks Old - You wouldn't guess it by looking at us, but it's true. We're now [only] two weeks old. We have thousands of products and hundreds of stores…and even though we're not officially open many stores are experiencing brisk sales. We get reports daily from storekeepers that even though we're a smaller venue they are seeing their sales above other venues. Plus, we have a fresh new group of buyers at ShopHandmade and so their market has expanded. This is great news!

Easier Editing & Navigation We have added more links to make editing items easier. When you are logged in you can go to your store using a link right at the top of every page, next to My Account. When you are viewing one of your items, the "Add to Shopping Cart" button is replaced with so you can quickly make changes. In your Store "Inventory" there is an edit button to edit items, and you can click on the item number and see the public view of the item. Buyers have links on individual items to view the store page directly with , and to see all of your store's products as a listing with .

New Product Classifications - We have upgraded our Product Classifications in a major restructure. We have added dozens of classifications. Plus, we have added a separate top-level "Vintage" classification. You can limit your searching to just handmade items (excluding reSupplies and Vintage) by using the drop-down to choose "Handmade." We recommend that stores reclassify their products into the new classifications. This will help your products be seen.

Card Store Opened - We have opened up the Card Store! we have had more cards listed for sale than products in any other classification. We decided to have a dedicated card store on the Shop screen. Shop for handmade cards by occasion and give a card from the heart, made with love. Our sponsors have a particular affection for card makers, too.
